「跳線」獨立電影節 JUMP CUT Independent Film Festival

Since last December, the amazing JUMP CUT Independent Film Festival Youth Committee has been ultra-busy getting things ready!  They’ve been screening and reviewing movies, curating the film festival, doing site visits, meeting industry professionals, helping with marketing and design, making trailers and much much more.

And tonight… it all begins!! JUMP CUT opens at the Hive. in Wanchai tonight. It then runs until Sunday 20 April, with screenings in pop-up venues all over Hong Kong – a residential rooftop, a shared workshop, an underground club and an artist hub. Now to meet some of the members of the committee… first up, we have Billy!

自去年12月開始，「跳線」獨立電影節的青年委員廢寢忘餐，積極為電影節的籌備工作而努力，包括搜羅電影及撰寫影評、策劃節目、考察場地、會見電影界專業人士、宣傳活動及設計活動刊物、製作預告片等等。

就在今晚，「跳線」獨立電影節正式開鑼！今晚的開幕電影將於灣仔創意工作室the Hive.上映，期後的電影更於本港與眾不同的地點公映，包括大廈天台、共用工作室、地下俱樂部及藝術旅舍。電影節反應熱烈，尚餘少量座位，請從速參閱節目表，並電郵kerryL@hkyaf.com預留座位。

我們特意訪問了一眾青年委員會成員，首先有請盧定諾Billy！

Billy, tell us about JUMP CUT!
JUMP CUT is about allowing the young and the old of all cultures and backgrounds to find the value behind independent movies, and about experiencing movies in a new way. It is also a platform for teenagers to share their thoughts – we have curated a great line up of fantastic independent films!

Billy，何謂「跳線」獨立電影節？
「跳線」獨立電影節讓不同年齡的參加者以新穎獨特的方式，在全新環境下體驗獨立電影，探討電影的創作理念。同時，這亦是一個青少年抒發己見的平台，我們將為大家呈獻一連串精彩的獨立電影。

To you, what is film?
To me, each film is a life, each film is someone’s story. Each film has its own identity. It represents someone’s dream. That’s why films are so special, so unique. At the same time, it is also TIME. It was the past, it is the present and it will be the future in this ginormous universe.

Film is a form of art that is irreplaceable. Unlike an instrument, a piece of theatre or visual art which transfers messages through vision or sound or the imagination, film is multimedia – it combines all artforms into one extraordinary one.

對你而言，甚麼是電影？
對我而言，電影就像生命，亦是每一個人的故事。每一套電影好比指紋一樣，印證着每一位導演心中獨特的世界，全是獨一無二的。電影亦代表着在這個浩大的宇宙裏不同時間，它是我們的過去、現在和將來。

電影是一種無可替代的藝術。它不像樂器、台上表演或藝術作品那樣，藝術家的信息只可以透過視覺、聽覺、甚至是想像等單一種方式傳遞。反觀電影是結合不同藝術媒介而成，是一種新穎多變的藝術模式。

What are your favourite films?
I would say “The Impossible “. As Stitch from Disney’s cartoon Lilo and Stitch says “Ohana is a family, family means nobody gets left behind. Or forgotten.” The Impossible touchingly shows the thing I love most about my life – my family. No one ever leaves anyone behind. For my family, I will forever fight until my last breath.

For JUMP CUT, I would choose “Disconnect”. It cleverly reveals to viewers how our everyday lives are connected to others in a way no one thinks about or expects. At the same time, it also acts as an alarm for reminding us how badly people can be hurt by inconsiderable behaviours and actions. It’s like a butterfly effect.

你最喜愛的電影是甚麼？
我想應該是《海嘯奇蹟》。正如迪士尼卡通史迪仔及莉蘿曾說過：「『Ohana』（歐哈那）是家庭的意思，家庭就是大家互相支持，從不放棄或遺忘任何一人。」而《海嘯奇蹟》正正道出了最教我感動的主題—家庭主義。導演帶出家庭團結的重要性，亦令觀眾明白親情並不單單是一種關係象徵，它同時是一種令人永不放棄的力量。

而在「獨立」跳線電影節裡，我最喜愛電影《斷了線》。這齣戲使觀眾明白我們日常生活中的每一件事，都與身邊的人，甚至是陌生人息息相關。這齣電影提醒我，一件看似簡單的錯事和行為，對其他人可能造成嚴重的傷害，甚至形成蝴蝶效應，危害更多的人。

Indie films…
When I started, I did not realise that indie films could be of as high quality as those mainstream blockbuster films. Although they are filmed using much smaller budgets, it turns out that you can find some very cool, meaningful high-quality indie films on YouTube. Another reason that makes me want to throw myself into the indie film world is because the director has complete control over his/her vision – with aims mostly not commercialised, but socialised.

I’LL NEVER REGRET JOINING JUMP CUT and YAF!! The committee are fantastic, the workshop conductor and the ideas behind the festival are amazing. It is really an unforgettable experience. If I could have a chance to do it again, I would definitely be there AGAIN.

獨立電影….
起初，我意想不到獨立電影竟然可以媲美大型主流製作的電影。雖然拍攝獨立電影的資金相對較少，這卻使我輕易地能在網上搜羅到很多高質素且有意義的獨立電影製作。另外，因為獨立電影的製作目的並非商業化性質，所以導演可以把自己的想法全面滲透於劇本裏，讓故事情節更多元化，亦更具特色。

我永不後悔曾經成為「跳線」青年委員及YAF這個家庭的一份子。每一位「跳線」青年委員非常出色，而工作坊的導師及電影節的理念都是嘆為觀止，使我得到難能可貴的體驗。假如有機會，我絕對會再次參加「跳線」這個活動。
